Tembo Trust
TEMBO Trust is a Registered Tanzania Trusteeship founded in 2007 to carry out Project TEMBO’S mandate of providing education and empowerment for girls and women in Longido and Kimokouwa Villages. Included in this mandate is the goal of creating project sustainability in Tanzania by the year 2020. Specific activities towards realizing this goal have already been undertaken: A micro-finance program was launched in 2005; TEMBO Trust was registered in Tanzania in June 2007; and the TEMBO Guesthouse was officially opened in January 2009.
TEMBO Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of three members of the Project TEMBO Canada Board of Directors and two Tanzanian citizens. The day to day work of educating and empowering girls and women is overseen in Tanzania by a Project Coordinator who is a Tanzanian citizen and resident of Longido village. TEMBO Trust is able to support many families by employing local residents and villagers, including guesthouse staff – a manager and assistant manager, watchmen, housekeepers, and a gardener; a library assistant; and a community facilitator. The bookkeeper and guesthouse chef, who also reside in Longido, are from Arusha.
TEMBO Trust values partnerships with other organizations whose goals are in keeping with educating and empowering girls and women, and improving village life in Longido and Kimokouwa. You will find the links to some of these organizations here.
